At least four U.S. Navy sailors assigned to the same facility in Virginia died by suicide in the last few weeks, military officials and family members say.

A Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center facility conducts a double docking evolution in Norfolk, Va., on Aug. 10, 2021.At least four U.S. Navy sailors assigned to the same facility in Virginia died by suicide in the last few weeks, including one as recently as Saturday, military officials and family members said.mental health crisisThe four sailors worked for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center , which maintains military ships and is based in Norfolk, Virginia.

“Right away, we should know these people are in higher need, under higher stress,” said Arestivo, who is also the co-founder and president of Trails of Purpose, a nonprofit that provides free mental health care to service members.Kody Lee Decker, 22, of Virginia, was on limited duty due to mental health issues when he took his own life on Oct. 29, according to a sailor close to Decker, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation.

"More kids are going to lose their parents. More people are going to lose their spouses, unnecessarily," the sailor said."It doesn't need to be this way."Armstrong, 22, was nearing the end of his contract with the Navy after four years, his family and friends said. More than half of the division attended, Arestivo said. But the efforts, which came after at least two other sailors had already died by suicide, were too late, she said.

“One suicide is too many,” Denzine said. “We remain fully engaged with our Sailors and their families to ensure their health and well-being, and to ensure a climate of trust that encourages Sailors to ask for help.” Named after Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brandon Caserta, 21, who died by suicide in 2018, the Brandon Act not only expedites mental health evaluations, but also provides a confidential channel for service members to self-report mental health issues.

Must have had dirt on the clintons

The sailors interviewed said that It's a combination of toxic leadership and being over worked. While the military is essentially saying it's the sailors faults and ignoring the causes. There needs to be an investigation into the toxic leadership and changes needed.

Haunted

We have on average of 22 suicide deaths a day with our veterans..22 a day!!

Yet we compensated the capitol polices family when they committed suicide. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Wokeness has destroyed the military. Should anyone be surprised at this point?

Losing the will to live is a consequence of not appreciating the world for what it is and not understanding that we are here to survive as a species. People who feel no purpose in life often end up like this. Criticize religion for as much as you want but it helps prevent this.

Wasn't this months ago?

SecDef gave his word that those who volunteer to give their lives for our country would be provided excellent medical care. Mental health issues being neglected or pushed under the carpet doesn't qualify, does it SECNAV ?

Bidens America

You're asleep at the wheel! Wake up! Your 'organization' is crumbling beneath you. Your silence on important issues is deafening. NBC and the corporate news apparatus is irrelevant.... a mere propaganda arm of the old guard.

I fear for my nephew now. It's obvious that, no matter the administration, once you join up, the government could care less what happens to you as long as you're performing your job.

As someone who had family member stationed there this isn't a surprise . Should been investigating long time ago.

💔🙏

To treat the deaths of 4 sailors in a few weeks on one base as ‘suicide’ is not credible. There needs to be a thorough external investigation. To glibly say ‘proactive’ measures, and treat such an incidence as normal does not cut it.

Again? What's going on in The Navy?

This is such an incredibly important issue.

michell48971532 Let's see....a woke military is leading the way in moral depravity....yes the results sound right.

Biden has blood on his hands

Was Hillary nearby?

Joe Biden is the most dishonest, divisive, and corrupt President in US History.

'The U.S. has the highest suicide rate of any wealthy nation. Suicides account for 14 deaths per 100,000 people in the U.S.' From Wikipedia: Males die by suicide 3.5 times more often than females.

😓

Thanks to Bidumb/dim wine policies

Story buries the reasons and potential behaviors of toxic leaders. Either the military employs similar work conditions as civilian companies or it doesn’t. To me that’s the gray area. Practice what you preach.

😪

🙏🏽🙏🏽

…or did they? 🤔

I am a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served 11+ years. Navy life can be demanding/hard and NOT for everyone. Recruiters should tell the entire Navy experience but they do not. People interested in the Navy need to ask more questions AND recruiters need to tell the whole story.

U.S. govt playing with mind control drugs on soldiers still

The Democrats don't support veterans or military families they hate the police they want to defund the police they don't care about veterans dying everyday look at all the homeless vets across the United States they want to fire the border patrols

Mercy

Tragic 💜💙

Investigate if they were being exposed to illegal covert trade craft: aka horror show

'Mental health' right

where is miguel almaguer

Watch the system protects the officers and lay the blame elsewhere.

“Suicide”

It would be nice if real journalists still existed and they would actually investigate these deaths.

Collisions, shipboard fires, suicides... the Navy has a serious leadership problem.

We aren't at war. There had to be issues prior to joining the Navy Any explanations?

Is it investigated ? this is very sad

Must suk there

How many Capital Police officers committed suicide in the days after they were ordered to violently put down the Jan 6 protest? Are the Navy suicides more dramatic than the Capital Police suicides?

You would too if you were assigned to a station in Virginia.

Omg. Such sad news. May they all Rest In Peace. 💙💙💙
