310-unit Birmingham development planned for West Oxmoor Road

Several Birmingham-area companies are collaborating on a new multifamily development being planned for West Oxmoor Road.

Real estate investment firm The Dobbins Group is heading up the project, which is designed by Williams Blackstock Architects. LBYD is serving as civil engineer, while Lorberbaum McNair is the landscape architect, Bullock Environmental is environmental consultant, and ECS Southeast is a geological and environmental consultant.

“West Homewood continues to be known as one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in all of Birmingham,” Bill Dobbins, Principal of Dobbins Group, said. “This community backs up to Red Mountain Park and is across the street from the Homewood Athletic Complex. This combination, and its proximity to Lakeshore Drive, makes this multifamily community central to many businesses, restaurants and shopping opportunities, while maintaining a peaceful and scenic oasis within the community itself.

It will be successful but the developer is embellishing the attributes. He says “West Homewood”, geographically correct but not City of Homewood/Homewood schools. Claiming “peaceful scenic oasis” is laughable. It’s surrounded by industrial and warehouses. No walking anywhere.

This is so marvelous for the Historic city of Birmingham, Alabama. There have been MANY calls for new housing subdivisions to be built in the city to attract and keep more middle class residents. It's so wonderful that they are being built in the city limits. Kudos... Birmingham

This won’t have a happy ending. At all. Give it five years, and it will be a Section 8 property and a huge blight on the area.
