The Rangers lost a game for the first time since October, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some positive takeaways.

Texas Rangers pitcher Emiliano Teodo delivers during the fourth inning of a spring training game against the Kansas City Royals at Surprise Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, in Surprise, Ariz.at Surprise Stadium Friday since the Rangers were technically the visiting team against Kansas City. As such, their pants were gray and distinctly opaque. Also, for the first time since October, the Rangers lost a game, falling 5-4 to Kansas City.

Teodo also sprayed the ball a bit, walking Logan Porter, the first hitter he faced, to load the bases, but he bounced back to strike out Maikel García ahead of the Witt matchup. “He handled a very tough situation for his first time in a big league game very well,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “He’s got electric stuff.”: Infielder Cam Cauley, a third-round pick in 2021, also hasn’t played above Class A, but was called over to backup the middle infield combo of Justin Foscue and Duran. He reached base twice on a walk and hit by pitch, stole a base, and scored twice.

It only reinforced why he’s creeping towards the Rangers’ top 10 prospects. Only 21, he makes things happen. And he might have the best set of fielding hands in the Rangers’ system. He will start at either advanced Class Hickory or Double-A Frisco. But he’ll get several more daily call-ups before the Rangers leave Arizona.

“A really nice player,” Bochy said. “He plays with a lot of energy and he plays smart. You will see him over here more than just once.”: Not much matters about games at this point, but throwing strikes is always a good thing. The Rangers have issued just five walks in the first two games. Then again, the Royals’ .303 OBP last year was the third worst in the majors.Texas Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi adjusting to MLB’s even shorter pitch clock for 2024, Rangers beat writer/insider.
