Four military bases in New Jersey, Virginia, Texas and Wisconsin are preparing to temporarily house Afghans being evacuated from Afghanistan following the Taliban's return to power.

aircraft are involved in evacuation efforts at Kabul's airport, said Army Gen. Stephen Lyons, who is in charge of U.S. Transportation Command, at a Pentagon news conference. Although he noted the air crews involved are"tired," due to the continuous mission, he spoke of the widely reported moment in which an Afghan woman gave birth on a U.S. aircraft while being evacuated.

Thirty-seven U.S. military flights — 32 C-17s and 5 C-130s — carried about 12,700 evacuees. An additional 8,900 people flew out aboard 57 flights by U.S. allies. "Thus far, and going forward, it does require constant coordination and deconfliction with the Taliban," Kirby said."What we've seen is, this deconfliction has worked well in terms of allowing access and flow as well as reducing the overall size of the crowds just outside the airport."

Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden: How four presidents created today's Afghanistan messHow America spent 20 years in Afghanistan, only to have the Taliban resume control again as its troops withdrew, will be a topic for historians to ponder for decades. Here's how four presidents have approached what became America's longest war. How about the part where they built a 300,000 troop military who quit... Because none of them addressed the religious and cultural issue in the region. And no matter how much money you spend or how much 'democracy' you brought to them, they still live in the 632AD after the death of the Prophet. Not really. Historians, political scientists, and basically all types of scholars of the region criticized the Afghan operation as doomed to fail once it became clear the Bush administration was just using it as a pretext to invade Iraq. This one is pretty cut and dry.
