1 killed, 5 critically injured when truck strikes students

Sophomore Yuridia Martinez died Tuesday from her injuries, officials announced at a news conference. Senior Rachel Freeman died at the scene of the Monday afternoon accident. Townsend's son was killed Sunday in a car accident, the location of which was close to Monday's scene, according to Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis.Multiple kids were hit by a car near Moore High School, in Moore, OK., Feb. 3, 2020.Members of the Moore High School cross country and track team were running on the sidewalk when they were struck, according to the school district.

"Heroic" students jumped in to help their injured classmates before first responders arrived, said Robert Romines, superintendent of Moore Public Schools.

MORE: The suspect, identified as a 57-year-old man, was driving a red pickup truck when he crashed into six students. He did not stop after hitting the students but was apprehended shortly after the incident.
