The incident happened Tuesday around 3 p.m. when the Grand County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a skiing accident on Highway 40 just west of the Berthoud Pass Summit, theOfficials said it was reported that a 21-year-old male was "unconscious and not breathing and that bystander CPR had been initiated."
According to a preliminary investigation, the man was attempting to perform the stunt by trying to clear the width of Highway 40 and "unfortunately lacked the necessary speed and distance and subsequently landed on the highway pavement.""Emergency responders arrived on scene and determined that the male subject was deceased and the Grand County Coroner’s Office was notified to respond to the scene," deputies said.
The Grand County Coroner's Office assumed primary jurisdiction for the incident and will release the victim's identity and cause and manner of death "when appropriate," according to the Grand County Sheriff's Office.
