Don't miss our weekly town hall.A driver blinks their hazard lights as heavy rain falls over parts of South Florida on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in Hollywood, Fla. is underway in the U.S. and right now eyes are on two separate tropical systems that might strengthen and have an impact on some southern state.
A disturbance over the Bay of Campeche has been named Potential Tropical Cyclone One. This will move west/northwest toward the Gulf coasts of Texas and Mexico as Tropical Storm Watches have been issued from Port O'Connor southward into Mexico to Boca de Catan. This means tropical storm conditions are possible in the next 48 hours. Heavy rain and serious flooding are set to impact these areas this week.
The area east of the Bahamas will possibly see low pressure organize and approach Northern Florida or Eastern Georgia as it moves west/northwesterly. This system has a 30% chance of developing in the next seven days. This system may bring scattered showers and storms, breezy to gusty conditions, an elevated rip current risk, and high surf hazard to the Carolinas.
Overall, the area near the U.S.'s Southeastern coast has a low chance of development due to dry air and high winds aloft. If development occurs, it will likely be a weak system.
