Catcher Kyle Teel, the former Mahwah standout and a University of Virginia All-American, was selected with the 14th overall pick by the Boston Red Sox. Teel was the first player with New Jersey ties to be selected, but he wasn’t the only one. A run of players who played high school ball in the Garden State started when former Christian Brothers right-handed pitcher Patrick Reilly, who just finished up his junior season at Vanderbilt, was selected in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
