The most range you can get currently with a Tesla Model 3 is 356 miles. That's a few shy of the Ioniq 6's new 361-mile rating, but there's a catch. The Ioniq 6 goes its distance with rear-wheel drive paired to a 77.4-kW battery pack, where the Model 3 achieves nearly as much while offering all-wheel drive .
According to the EPA's website, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD is rated at 131 MPGe combined and the Ioniq 6 is now rated at 140 MPGe in the SE RWD Long Range configuration. The Ioniq achieves a drag coefficient of 0.22 with its U.S. mirrors, or 0.21 with the Korean-market rear-view cameras. The Tesla Model 3 is just a hair off, with a 0.23 drag coefficient.
Here's how the full Ioniq 6 lineup rounds out: The SE RWD Long Range with 18-inch wheels achieves 361 miles of range and 140 MPGe; the SE AWD Long Range with 18-inch wheels achieves 316 miles and 121 MPGe; the SEL RWD with 20-inch wheels and the Limited RWD with 20-inch wheels both achieve 305 miles and 117 MPGe; the SEL AWD and Limited AWD with 20-inchers both achieve 270 miles and 103 MPGe. Pick your poison.
Comparing a rear wheel drive to an all wheel drive is frankly ridiculous
Now do charging networks.
Great job from Hyundai. They managed to make a car which beats a 6 year old design in terms of efficiency. Truly remarkable.
Should be a good seller. Does it use the supercharger network and use a heat pump for A/C?
Maybe instead of comparing every EV to Tesla, you compare it to the gas equivalent. This just proves the narrative is anti-Tesla and not transitioning people to EV’s.
Looks better, too!
Except for the mismatched charge cover port
What is production capacity?
Hyundai over Tesla is clown level advice
But looks more on the gay spacship side.
i know this article is all about a brand that's not a luxury brand beating tesla in range, but then again it's more expensive (than the model 3 lr) and is larger so you would somewhat expect better range
0.21 cd seems to be where it starts looking like a penguin, and no longer like a car. Nothing wrong with penguins, of course.
Yeah, but you were sacrificing all wheel drive to get the long range model.
I feel like legacy auto makes EV’s ugly on purpose. There is no other explanation for this rear end
Not too attractive judging only by the photo for me.
😂
Not. A. Chance.
🤣 someone paid you guys or something?
Congratulations to them, that’s some great efficiency in warm weather, Hyundais really degrade in the cold. Worth noting the Tesla is all wheel drive, not that everyone needs that.
Hyundai- I don't think so. Tesla for life. And I'll wait for Mr Sandy Munro to do a tear down just for laughs. And what's even worse Is you have to help these other car manufacturers to get customers on inferior cars where Teslas SELL THEMSELVES.
That is excellent if you drive 300 miles a day, and have no place to recharge. How the F does that. The 300 miles recharge takes 10 hours overnight at home plugged in at Dryer plug.
What a hideous chassis 🤮🤮🤮
Glad there was finally an independent test. I’m sure tesla paid them off to make them look not as bad as they really are!
Motor Trend has a clear bias over Elon Musk, not Tesla. They can careless about Tesla The trend is clear
Sorry, I don’t care for that look at all.
The numbers are in. Sponsorship dollars from Hyundai last year: $8.5m From Tesla: $0
Perhaps, but it looks like a turd 🤷🏻♂️
Gl with electrify America bc its trash
They don’t have a reliable 3rd party charging system-so worthless
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Beats the Tesla Model 3 on... checking notes ... Everything!
Ugly
Paid for by Hyundai. Stop the hype
Whats that on the picture. Someone dropped a soap?
Great car if you’re into buicks!
I’m waiting to see if all the Hyundai, Mustang, F150 and so on accidents and fires get the same publicity that the Teslas do.
Until you have to charge anywhere else than home!
But your can't charge it anywhere in the US reliably
i want one
And it also beats Tesla Model 3 in ugliness by a lot..
Lol!
Me realizing that the Auto Rags hate Tesla because they don’t advertise…. ;)
RWD vs 4WD… and only beating by 5 mi? What is this? Simple Math for Dummies? Hyundai’s Tech is still quite a bit behind
That’s a rear wheel drive vehicle. The Tesla 3 has very close to that range and it’s all-wheel drive.
And it looks better and is built better
How does this car have an edge. Please elaborate and specifically on engineering specs considering you run a technical/motor channel.
It’s ugly
Yawn
That's awesome except it'll be limited to driving around town as RateYourCharge demonstrated the CCS charging networks are in a sad state. Only sensible EV choice especially for road tripping remains with Tesla and TeslaCharging Supercharger Network
If you would actually compare RWD versions of both manufacturers, you actually still would have some credibility left…
Go Hyundai go!! *soon, for Gen Z's the choice is obvious...
I will admit that it does look good enough to be a worthy Tesla competitor compared to all the clown cars out there
Pretty shameful to not know the difference between kW and kWh.
You’ve lost any respectability you’ve ever had over the years. . Everyone knows you are paid shills for Legacy Auto. 🤣
Doesn't matter until legendary uncle Bjorn comes up with the results.
'The Ioniq 6 goes its distance with rear-wheel drive paired to a 77.4-kW battery pack, where the Model 3 achieves nearly as much while offering all-wheel drive (and a 82-kWh battery).' Not completely apple to orange?
This is just blatant bullshit. 💩💩💩
Teslas suck
RWD vs AWD Range comparison is lame! It's apple to oranges. AWD ioniq 6 have only 316 miles of range vs Model LR AWL has 358 miles of range
Nice! EVs are coming out with better hardware. However, I don't believe that MPGs is a fair comparison to lucid. Since Iq6 weighs about 900lb less. Let's throw that extra weight and drive it around. Even with a 77kWh we should get same MPGs with added. pure has 88kWh with 410m
Acceleration: Model 3 AWD 4.2S; Hyundai 7.4S. Model 3 has way better safety, software, charging network and audio system. If just set the Model 3 to Chill mode, it would beat the range too. There is simply no comparison, misleading article.
I will never allow myself to be seen in a Hyundai 🤣 that’s how you know you’ve failed in life
Readers added more context they thought people might want to know: Price you have to pay for a 5 more miles of range is driving the ugliest car mankind has ever made & of course you'll be missing out all the things $TSLA is better at, including that the longest range M3 has AWD.
Any car that doesn’t blow up is good in my book
Beats with the ugly stick
Still hating on elonmusk I see. Have you written anything positive since he bought Twitter?
Try road tripping, tesla network has the last laugh on “range” and charging. No one wants to say they have a Hyundai.
Yeah, but it’s still a Hyundai.
That’s great. But don’t venture too far from home. The charging network is so abysmal for non-Tesla EVs that it will take you days to go any further than it’s stated range.
What an ugly body style
That thing is hideous from behind. Looks like a bizarre version of the bangle butt
What say you elonmusk ?
Honesty, the quest for ultra fast sprints for 0-60 miles is a farce. It was the criteria for US muscle cars , a quick start straight line burst because they could not handle anything else. Put them on a figure 8 track for 3 laps, all weather tires, run them dry and wet surface .
Edge on a cliff?
Ok
Also easily on build quality
Tesla could always reintroduce the long range RWD variant to beat this Hyundai, but realistically why would they?
I hope future articles answer these questions: • Did Hyundai use the 5-cycle or the old 2-cycle test? • Does it have a heat pump? • Is it capable of extracting heat from the battery pack after fast charging to warm the cabin?
BuddaDonny Bahahahaha
And also in ugliness
But just look at it...
The edge for fugliest looking thing?
Yea, but who wants to have aHyundai parked on their driveway? They’re not exactly a status symbol are they?
It’s so fuckin ugly though 😫
back end looks like an eclipse
It's going to need all that range because it can't find any reliable dc fast chargers.
There is obviously an organized campaign to besmirch and devalue the king of EV.
W
Ahead of its time.
That is one ugly Saab 900.
It’s an interesting CLS type design and not as boring as the Tesla. The range is the icing on the cake.
Awesome! Took 6 years to beat the model 3. Competition is good. So many other automakers getting left in the dust.
Neither one gets the rating they are given anyway.
MUCH better looking as well!
Ugliest rear on the market?
Every picture I see of this thing is somehow uglier than the last.
Take a model three in this on a road trip from New York to LA see who does well that’s all that all matter.
counterpoint both butt ugly
This looks so ugly. They will have a tough time selling these since virtually all of their competitors make better looking vehicles.
Far better build quality than a Tesla.
Except that they are very easy to steal, Insurance companys are refusing to insure them.
Teslas biggest advantage is their cars look like normal cars. This thing is hideous. Not all EV buyers want a car that looks at home on a Star Trek set, and the difference in range from 250 to 350 miles doesn’t really matter in real world use.
Fugly
EVs are powered by charging stations that run on diesel fuel. EVs are a sham. ⛽
Impressive
Such a click bait title. I'm glad legacy automakers are making EVs, I just wished that could stand on their own merit. You can't see an EV released without their needing to be an antagonistic comparison to Tesla. I wonder what range a long range rwd model 3 could get...
And as an added bonus it’s super ugly.
The size appears to be more in line with the Model S.
Hyundai now has superchargers all over the place? I don’t think so😒
Not sure it's the edge they were going for though...
Congrats. Can they make a matching gas cover? elonmusk
Wao!!! Amazing 👏🏻
I don't see an edge on this car
