When Rutgers coach Greg Schiano walked to midfield to shake hands with Ohio State coach Ryan Day followingJust a short time earlier, Schiano hustled to midfield, then kept running, all the way over to the OSU sideline, where players from both teams had gathered after an Ohio State fake punt resulted in a 22-yard gain and a first down.
And by the time he got the first down and started to make his way toward the boundary, Rutgers special teamer Aron Cruickshank was sprinting toward Mirco and hit him late out of bounds, resulting in a flag and a near brawl.When Day was asked about the fake punt after the game, he said it was not called, that Mirco did it on his own and that the coach would talk to his punter about it.
Schiano later said he originally began running across the field to get Cruickshank and his teammates away from the OSU sideline to prevent additional flags. While he was there, he and Day were seen exchanging words and pointing at each other, but the two would shake hands amicably after the game a short time later.
