That means there will be two open state Assembly seats in the district on next year's ballot.

“After much thoughtful reflection, I have decided that I am at a point in my life where I’m ready to slow it down some,” the 57-year-old legislator said in a statement. “My wife’s health issues have been public for a while now and more recently I had a health scare of my own. When confronted with a profound situation, you start to take stock of your life, and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are other things I wish to do after my term is complete.

Wirths, a former Sussex County freeholder and member of the state Parole Board, is the Republicans’ budget officer in the Assembly. He has frequently been critical of how Democrats — who control the Legislature and the governor’s office — have overseen the state budget. Space, meanwhile, announced in March he will not run for a seventh term after a decade in the Assembly, citing “profound changes” in his personal life. That, he said, includes the death of his father and his sister retiring from the family business, Space Farms Zoo and Museum in Wantage.

“These events have placed more responsibilities upon me as we look to continue operating our family business into the next generation,” the 53-year-old legislator said in a statement. “After a deep reflection, I feel my complete attention will ultimately be needed running our family’s business.” Space serves on the Assembly’s agriculture committee, added he has taken “great pride” in being the only farmer in the Legislature.

There going to retire even though NJ is “fixed yet”! That’s because it will never be fixed! NJ was founded in December 18, 1787. So it’s pretty safe to say the bullshittt will NEVER end! But I know the next campaigner will pledge to “change it”. 🤮

Rep. Kerry Benninghoff to step down from Pa. House Republican leadership ranks.Benninghoff had been floor leader of the House Republicans in Harrisburg since 2020. They misread the state regarding Trump and now they pay for it. 😆🍿 In his first election, he promised to serve only two terms. He objected to mail in voting which he crafted the legislation for as unconstitutional (State). He supported nullifying PA votes for President in 2020. I hope the backlash is the reason he is stepping down.
