Austin Lyle is wanted on the charge of attempted homicide.
Denver police Chief Ron Thomas said the shooting occurred during a “security search” of Lyle based on past behavior — “a regular protocol with this student” — that detected a gun. The student fired shots around 9:50 a.m. “and was able to get out of the school.” One victim was in critical condition undergoing surgery, he said. The other was in serious but stable condition.
Wednesday’s shooting occurred less than six weeks after a 16-year-old East student was shot in his car outside the school; he died two weeks later. Denver’s elected school board voted in 2020 to remove the Denver Police Department’s resource officers from schools following the national reckoning over the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. School board members argued that having police in schools was detrimental to students of color and contributed to the “school-to-prison pipeline.”
Marrero said safety plans for students are enacted in response to “past educational and also behavioral experiences,” adding that it’s a common practice throughout Colorado’s public schools.
That’s what happens when your school board votes to remove police from schools. Their front line of defense was voted away by woke policies that were never thought through.
Almost all of the spikes in violent crime can be traced to 1 particular event which is death of George Floyd & then the riots that convulsed entire country. The sad irony here is that BLM say that they are protesting for BLM, but the people who are dying are predominantly black.
