Calling it “the most exciting job of my career,” director Sam Mendes on Thursday introduced the trailer for his upcoming World War I epicWith the movie telling the real-time, two-hour-long tale of two soldiers on a mission to stop a massacre of British troops by German fighters, Mendes said he hoped to get audiences to “breathe every breath” with the soldiers.Universal Pictures is set to launch the awards-season pic in theaters in limited release December 25 before going wide January 10.
Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden and Claire Duburcq also star in the pic, written by Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Producers are Mendes, Pippa Harris, Jayne-Ann Tenggren, Callum McDougall and Brian Oliver. The film’s panel today today at the AMC 34th St. Theater featured Mendes, MacKay, Chapman, Wilson-Cairns, Harris and cinematographer Roger Deakins, who helped pull off the single-shot feat. Deakins today called the work “exhilarating and inspiring. It’s a completely immersive experience.”
Universal and Amblin Partners will distribute the film internationally, with eOne distributing on behalf of Amblin in the UK.
