NEW YORK — At least 19 people, including nine children, died in a fire Sunday at a Bronx apartment building in one of the worst blazes in New York City in decades, officials said.“This is going to be one of the worst fires that we have witnessed during modern times,” he said.
More than five dozen people were injured and 13 people were still in critical condition in the hospital, Ringel said. The majority of victims were suffering from severe smoke inhalation, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a press conference earlier that afternoon.Firefighters “found victims on every floor and were taking them out in cardiac and respiratory arrest,” he said at an afternoon briefing. “That is unprecedented in our city. We expect there to be numerous fatalities.
Why are there no fire escapes on this building?
Very important people need to have there own heating system to make it as high as they wanted
nycgov GovKathyHochul NYCMayor needs to make Aparment houeing more space and make the bedrooms more space and forced air heating floor vents makes the apartment warm
In the end, this is just more evidence of how political the entire pandemic has been. Everything’s a conspiracy theory until it’s no longer useful to the Democrat narrative. Then, and only then, can changes be made to present the public with more accurate information.
Fauci, said the typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out [the] virus, which is small enough to pass through the material. It might, however, provide some slight benefit in [keeping] out gross droplets if someone coughs or sneezes on you.”
Correction: Capitalism kills another 19 people in New York.
The complaints against this building/ owner have been posted on twitter and are publicly available re: journalism… Many of the complaints referring to lack of heat. So was it the heater, or the slumlord? 🤔
MSpadine Så fruktansvärt hemskt och tragiskt
Failure to enforce building code caused the fire.
Love and compassion to families, friends and colleagues of all those who lost their lives in this awful tragedy.
This isn’t supposed to happen. You have fire sprinklers for one obviously test weren’t done to make sure they were all working and fire dampers in the HVAC to prevent fire and smoke from spreading floor to floor. Definitely need answers the safeguards in place for protection fail
I am by no means blaming anyone. But I do want to share this PSA I still remember from my childhood.
🙏🏽✨
Those damn space heaters. I recognize they are the sole source of heat for many people during colder months. Time for stricter space heater regulations and easier accessibility to utilities.
Space heaters are dangerous when used in any situation. This building was built in the 70's; not 1900 like the 1 in Philly. I'd be not concerned about the fact that the tenants typically 'ignore' the smoke alarms bc they go off so often.
So ver sad. Always be prepared the Girl Scouts motto. Space heaters are deadly I just had that conversation with someone yesterday and they blew me off. What can people do to help. Bless all the Brave and wonderful firefighters who risk their lives all their lives!!!
The landlord wasn’t giving out sufficient heat, if any. I have a space heater in NYC because we constantly have to call 311 on the landlord to have it on. And there are fire escapes, but they are not inspected or maintained. Many pre-war and adjacent buildings are deathtraps.
Life of the poor in the city of the rich. Hope there will be some action instead of the regular thoughts and prayers.
Maria_Hinojosa Damn. One of those cause a sorority fire when my mom was in college. Her fire paranoia never abated. The heat should have worked well enough so the tenants did not need one.
NYCHA building?
maggieNYT Someone heat was shut off shoulder happen in winter
😥😥😥😥
What a crappy looking building, New York.
maggieNYT how horrible!!!
قال المسؤولون إن تسعة عشر شخصا، من بينهم 9 أطفال، قتلوا في حريق في مبني سكني في مدينة برونكس بمدينة نيويورك.
jentaub 😭😭
Don’t blame the heater Turn the heat on
They’re only acting like they care because multiple checks and balances failed. They didn’t care about a building full of Africans enough to make sure it didn’t happen like other high units.
181 street... 18+1=19 ---east
According to OCWR, space heaters caused 32% of home heating fires or structural fires between 2005 and 2009. 32% seems high enough to me to find alternatives
May Allah rest the soul’s of them 9 kids.
Finally some good news.
maggieNYT A good, safe space heater runs upwards of $50. I remember a time when that would have screwed up my budget for the whole month. Buildings need to be upgraded to have central heat that works properly.
mandylauralane Das ist ja schrecklich
“Building resident…told the New York Post she started putting wet towels at the bottom of her door after smelling smoke while drinking coffee in her living room.”
Damn
What the fuck

MAGA is rejoicing. Can you believe it? MAGA is saying they don't care. It's a blue state. They've sunk that low.
Trump owned property.
DavidBegnaud So tragic
🙏🏾🙏🏾Omg
BUYSAFEMOON
Pretty certain this is the worst fire in decades. Not counting 9/11 I think you’d have to go back to Happyland to see a fire with a death toll this high 😔
Sometimes, I forget you can die in other ways :(
💔🙏
Prayers for the families. 🙏
