The region was hit with a rare heavy snowstorm over the weekend, with accumulations reaching about a foot by Monday,Tim McMahan, a spokesman for Union Pacific, which owns the rail line, told NPR that crews worked through Monday night to clear the tracks so that a locomotive could pull the Amtrak train northward — a change of course for what had been a Los Angeles-bound journey.

Amtrak where's my parents' refund after spending 2 days stranded outside Fargo and Minot with no heat or power for 2 days on the EmpireBuilder?

Sounds like the makings for a murder mystery

Limited food and ability for exercise and smoking cigarettes, but they were warm, dry and safe. So were the kids in church group still stuck there because the hiway is still closed. Considering the alternative if they had gotten off the train they'd be stuck

Oh come on. The train was heated. They could’ve walked up and down the isles for exercise.

At least they didn't have to resort to eating each other

Coast Starlight!

What? Are you telling me the train made passengers remain seated for 36 hours. C’mon.
