The family member thought they were putting car in reverse, but accidentally put it in drive and when they stepped on the accelerator, they ran over the child.SAN ANTONIO — An 11-year-old boy was accidentally run over and killed by a family member in his own driveway Saturday afternoon, police say.responded to the 5400 block of Sunlit Brook, near Wurzbach Road and Babcock Road, around 4:15 for reports of an accident.

When officers arrived at the home, they were told that the 11-year-old boy was standing on the driveway at his home when an older relative, also a juvenile, tried to drive another family member's Toyota Corolla that was parked in the driveway. The older juvenile relative did not have a driver's license, or any experience driving. He told police he thought he was putting the gear in reverse, but instead put it in drive, stepped on the accelerator and hit the boy.

A family member heard the crash, and tried to help the boy, then drove him to University Hospital, which was close by.
