Crews are building two concrete walls on either side of the freeway near the Liberty Canyon Road exit and erecting columns in the median on the freeway.
More than 6,100 tons of concrete and over 426 tons of bar reinforcing steel have been used to create the walls and the columns, according to the National Wildlife federation. And starting in mid or late April, Caltrans will install “the large-scale concrete beams that will be the first horizontal support for the crossing,” according to the National Wildlife federation.“With the placement of the horizontal supports, the structure is truly going to start looking like the bridge it will become,” said Beth Pratt, California Regional Executive Director for the National Wildlife Federation in a statement.
