“ADHD is hard for everyone. It doesn’t just impact the individual; it impacts thewho’s trying her best to help, it impacts the little brother who doesn’t understand what ADHD is but sees the symptoms every day, it impacts teachers and friends. Everyone has to deal with it. Find a way to work around it and work with it. We don’t choose to have ADHD in our lives; ADHD chose us.”
“It’s frustrating enough when ADHD wins the day. We internalize it more than we may let on. Every time our loved ones mirror those feelings with their words, expressions, or actions it validates our embarrassment and frustration. It is already hard enough experiencing them without witnessing them externally reinforced in our loved ones’ reactions. The more our loved ones react with criticism, the louder we hear their voices while reprimanding ourselves.
“Those of us who have ADHD or who support people with ADHD are doing our best. I wish the world could walk in our shoes for just a short period of time to truly understand how taxing ADHD can be — and how it affects just about everything! I wish the world were more tolerant and accepting in general – everyone struggles with something and ADHD is our struggle. Don’t judge. Be tolerant and accepting of everyone no matter the person, problem, or issue — known or unknown.
“I am worth any trouble my ADHD brain might cause and, with a little understanding and patience, I can wow you. ADHD means we operate differently than most successful people, but it doesn’t mean our ways are wrong just because they’re different and you don’t understand them. Don’t underestimate me. Don’t tie my hands with unimportant rules or unnecessary restrictions. Let me think and work outside of your narrow little box. My work doesn’t always fit in a box. It’s bigger than your box.
“I wish the world knew what it means to be forgiving and understanding of neurodiversity; to accommodate our weaknesses, and celebrate our strengths. It may seem a pain to change environments and procedures to fit those differences, but like all accommodations, they benefit everyone with both permanent and temporary differences.
How hard it is to get basic stuff done because it’s literally boring asf to us 🤣🤣
Happy new year from oakhillnyon :) Thank you for all the work you do to help the ADD/ADHD community.
I feel so seen
Your topics are very relatable, but I bet most people with ADHD are incapable of reading them to the end. Too long and too many repetitive, superfluous sentences, paragraphs even. A missed opportunity!
Hi! Loved this, made me tear up a lot. I was wondering, is there a translated spanish version of this article? If there isn't, I'd love to collaborate with you guys to write it.
I’m not usually late for things & I’m not hyperactive so it’s not unusual for people to doubt my diagnosis. Every ADDer is different.
These difficulties are mine: 1.Time (my nemesis) 2.Organization 3.Sleep Issues 4.Distractability 5.Super active mind 6.”Out of sync”exhaustion 7. Feeling bad about 6. 8-9.Depression and anxiety 10. Struggling internally to cope w all of the above
ADHD does not always look like the common symptoms people know. My son was diagnosed with ADHD because of his lack of ability to self regulate. Once he was put on medication. Oh My God their was a huge change and finally he was able to use tools that his teacher taught him.
This!!!! 👏🙌👏🙌💗💗
...and the same goes for other learning differences such as dyslexia.
Amen and thank you.
My great quest is to redefine this from a disorder to a subtype. I don’t particularly expect to succeed in this, but it gives me something to do and everyone needs a hobby.
I love that!
Tell that to friends, employers, partners...
Beautifully written. My life..
I'm trying to get my 12 yr old to believe this. We see a therapist weekly and he has fantastic support at home and in school, but he is so hard on himself. How can we boost his self-esteem?
