According to recently released data, Uber and Lyft drivers were involved in 1,098 crashes in the city of Boston last year, accounting for approximately a quarter of all motor vehicle collisions in the city.

that according to recent data released from a state agency that regulates the app-based ridesharing companies, Uber and Lyft drivers were involved in 1,098 crashes in the city of Boston last year. This accounts for roughly a quarter of all motor vehicle collisions in the city. This year, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities published an annual data report on Uber and Lyft activities across the state for the first time.

The report for 2021 indicates that Uber and Lyft drivers were involved in 2,267 crashes across Massachusetts in 2021. Almost half of those crashes, 1,098, occurred in Boston. This roughly lines up with the proportion of the companies’ business that takes place in Boston compared to the rest of the state as 46 percent of all Uber or Lyft trips in Massachusetts originated inside the city of Boston last year.

But the data also appears to show that Uber and Lyft drivers are significantly more likely to be involved in a crash in Boston than anywhere else in Massachusetts. The MassDOT crash database recorded 124,577 crashes in the state in 2021. This means that crashes involving an Uber or Lyft driver accounted for approximately two percent of the state’s total number of crashes last year. That’s a far cry from the almost one in four figure within Boston’s city limits.

In a statement on the numbers, the Boston Transportation Department stated that “the City of Boston prioritizes safer streets for all. This starts with redesigning streets to reduce risk and discourage unsafe driver behavior. While most of our street design changes are designed to have broad safety benefits, strong curb management is especially important for safe operation of TNCs and other gig-economy companies operating on our streets.

And they want to give driver’s license’s to illegals!

Wow. Thank goodness it wasn't me.

Ban them.

What is the percentage of cars on the streets that are Uber or Lyft?

As long as it’s not my D.U.I. I could give a shit.

How many rapes?

probably because they drive ten plus hours a day.

They don't drive Tesla.

But you are Breitbart News…a kind of a journalistic disastah…😆

A lot of these would have been prevented if people learned how to cook and stopped ordering overpriced junk food through them.

Boston dropped a bowl of spaghetti on their city and designated the results as their road system. Therein rests the problem.

Don’t forget about the food delivery drivers. Not far behind are landscapers and pool guys.

Surfers who spend 10x as much time in the ocean are more likely to get bitten by sharks than the average beach goer as well… If Uber/Lyft drivers spend an exponential amount more time on the road than the average person this makes sense.

Meaningless if they don't factor in miles driven by Uber/Lyft compared to personal vehicles.

That’s bc Boston residents can’t afford to have cars and use Uber and Lyft almost exclusively.

In public, not in court, CRIMINAL TRUMP screams lies. 'The FBI planted evidence!' 'I de-classified ALL things!' Finally courts are holding him accountable. 'The lies you scream? Either plead them IN COURT where lies will get you in trouble, and provide evidence, or shut up!'

That’s comforting information! Only in Boston…..

Good to know…

I’ve had a really bad experience with an Uber driver. He was lost and wouldn’t allow me to help him with directions.Drove on sidewalks and almost got us killed. He was a lunatic and I’ll never forget him. My child was terrified and we asked to let us out and he didn’t 😳😳😳😳

At least Massachusetts started conducting their own background checks AFTER a potential TNC Driver is approved by Checkr due in part to an audit....

That just means that Boston is more of a taxi City than a privately owned vehicle City.

Ok. But how many miles does the average Uber/Lyft driver cover in a day? Sure, more accidents, but when measured per mile driven, maybe they’re the safest drivers there are?

US Lawmakers Push Tech Firms on Abortion Benefits for Gig WorkersAs long as health care remains tied to employment in the US, companies will continue to come under pressure to protect workers from laws that restrict health care access. 'lawmakers push tech firms'. If tech firms could drop the pretend libertarian facade for a minute, it would be 'tech firms push lawmakers to pass single payer health insurance' instead of a health care system that is the only abortion that the GOP will allow.

California Voted for Cheaper Uber Rides. It May Have Hurt DriversIn 2020, Proposition 22 was proposed with the intention of improving worker conditions while keeping rides & deliveries cheap and abundant for consumers. But a new report suggests that rideshare drivers in California have instead seen their wages decline. Uh... DUH. Prop 22 was written and endorsed by the rideshare companies, and they poured millions into promoting it. Of course it wasn't in the best interests of the drivers! Ride costs went up, and wages went down. I wonder if something might’ve happened during that time that caused a decrease in wages, and if something did in fact happen, would these workers have survived layoffs if they were employees? If being an Uber or Lyft driver is your long term career goal then you deserve a pay cut
