An 18-wheeler was carrying a bulldozer when it crashed and lost its load on the North Loop, causing a big backup on both sides of the freeway., the crash happened around 3:10 p.m. It forced both directions of the 610 North Loop at Homestead to be shut down while crews worked to clear the crash site.
According to investigators, an 18-wheeler was hauling a bulldozer when it crashed in the westbound lanes, sending the heavy piece of construction equipment into oncoming traffic. According to Air 11 video, the bulldozer appeared to have come to rest against a guardrail all the way across the eastbound lanes of the freeway.
The bulldozer struck at least one vehicle after it fell off the trailer. The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the bulldozer was taken to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead. Authorities said four vehicles were involved in the crash. They said it appears to have been caused by one vehicle that failed to maintain its lane.
It's unclear how long the freeway will be shut down. Authorities said diesel fuel also spilled on the roadway.ALERT: IH-610 and Homestead, will be shut down for an extended period of time, due to a significant MVA.
