Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Netflix has renewed its sci-fi hit Stranger Things for a fifth and final season, but the show’s ending could suffer from the same problem that marred Game of Thrones. One of Netflix’s most popular original series, Stranger Things takes influence from Stephen King and Steven Spielberg for a coming-of-age drama about ‘80s kids encountering supernatural forces and sinister government agents.
Stranger Things Needs A Sad Ending To Give The Story Stakes The fifth and final season of Stranger Things needs to end the series on a sad, heavy note so that the story has real stakes. There have been plenty of ancillary character deaths along the way – from Billy to Barbara to Bob Newby to Eddie Munson – but all the main characters have managed to survive their scrapes with the monsters of the Upside Down.
Stranger Things WILL Have A Happy Ending – It's That Kind Of Show Considering the ‘80s adventure movie spirit that inspired the Duffer brothers to create Stranger Things in the first place, the idea that the series won’t have a happy, uplifting ending is almost inconceivable. There has been some tragedy along the way, but each season of the show has returned to the comfort of the status quo. The core cast of Mike, Eleven, Will, Dustin, and Lucas have all been safe so far.
Stranger Things' Ending Cannot Please Everyone There’s no way for Stranger Things to end in a way that will satisfy everybody. Some will want a happy ending and find anything else too miserable, while others will want a more grounded ending and find a happier conclusion too sappy and unrealistic. Whichever route the Duffers choose to take, they’ll satisfy one half of the fan base and disappoint the other half.
