If there’s one thing in our regular lives that we just don’t find the time for, it’s cleaning the grime off our makeup brushes. There’s just always something better to do, but now that we’re at home all day, it’s a job that can’t be put off any longer.
And thanks to a clever hack by vlogger Jamie Genevieve, it doesn’t even have to cost money or take up more than a few minutes of your precious Netflix-allocated time. All you need is some soap and a kitchen sieve. Jamie starts by filling her sink with hot water, before adding soap under the running tap. She recommends Dr. Bronner’s Rose Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, buy it here for £23, however if you don’t have access to that then you can use whatever gentle hand soap you have.
She then produces a small kitchen sieve – the kind you’d use to sift flour or cocoa powder into a cake mix. After dunking it in the suds, Jamie holds it so the water floods half of the sieve, then swirls her dirty make-up brush around in the water, using the mesh to dislodge the product from the brush.
Instagram If the water gets too muddy after cleaning a few brushes, she recommends re-filling it so you aren’t adding dirt to the rest of your brushes. The social media star and make-up artist posted the hack to her Instagram and YouTube accounts, where she has 1.2 million followers and 850k subscribers, and her fans are delighted by it, with one raving: “All the money I wasted on fancy brush pads and I could have used my sieve”.
