Humza Yousaf will claim an SNP victory in a crunch by-election will force Labour to rethink its opposition to scrapping the two-child cap on benefits. The First Minister will use a speech in Perth today to accuse Keir Starmer of making a "political choice" over the hated Tory benefits policy.
Labour remains the bookies' favourite to win the Rutherglen by-election, after former MP Margaret Ferrier was booted out by voters in a recall petition. But Yousaf has pointed to the example of a narrow Tory by-election win in Boris Johnson's old seat as proof that an SNP upset could force a rethink from Starmer.
"And unbelievably, he will keep the cruelest Tory welfare policies - many of which, like the two-child cap, mainly affect working families who are struggling in the UK’s low-wage Brexit-based economy.
