A councillor has criticised developers carrying out the £50m redevelopment of Stretford town centre warning them: 'You're losing the public'. Coun Mike Cordingly was speaking to colleagues on Trafford’s planning and development management committee which gave the green light for developers to alter their plans - including the retention of the Aldi store.
As well as the retention of the Aldi store, a proposed park has been re-orientated to provide ‘better connectivity to the site’, although its size remains the same. The maximum building heights are also to be reduced towards Barton Road, Wellington Street and Church Street, while the maximum heights of the buildings toward centre of the mall site will rise from eight storeys to 12.However, Coun Cordingly said: “They are losing the public.
“It’s always been a strong part of this scheme that the public would be part of it, but I don’t think that’s a planning objection either.” But Coun Cordingly replied saying: “There has. They’ve said their piece, but nothing has been changed.”
