Radio 1 Newsbeat speaks to black Muslims about their experiences in the dating world and society.

"I've had people say you're a great guy, perfect for my sister but you're black. And I feel like… woah.""On one side when it comes to religion, you're Muslim but black. But on the other side, when it comes to culture, you're black or you're Muslim. So where do you win?" the 28-year-old tells Radio 1 Newsbeat.

And his experiences mean he's starting to second guess whether he should look for someone outside of his race."What if I dated a black, Muslim or white boy?"A survey of over 400 users by Muzmatch, one of the world's biggest Muslim dating apps, has found 74% of its black members felt that race affected the matches they got.

Kha'llum, who was born a Muslim, says people "tend to look at me in another way", and he often gets asked when he converted to Islam. Kaya is a convert to Islam and is sad such discrimination exists, saying her devotion to Islam is no less than those born into the faith. Since the Black Lives Matter protests after the death of George Floyd, Zainab feels there's been a slight change.

On BBC division today...you guessed it, shit posts

Freedom 2021

Keep on stirring the pot bbc

It never ends

And your virginity...?

There is always something for them to play the victim card with. Perhaps when adhering to a religion, don't contradict it by dating, no wonder people doubt your faith.

Isn't 'anti-blackness' racism? Or do you only use racism when referring to white people? Black people and Muslims can be racist as your story shows, you can't bring yourself to use that word for these groups? This is woke to another level, it's not racism it's anti-blackness😆

What a comedy...it's happening only in Muslim community

Why does the BBC insist in pushing diversity as news? It’s not news and just comes across as licence fee payers being sold left-wing narratives instead of the neutral news reporting which is within the BBC’s remit. It’s not occasional, it’s constant.

Validation period is?

After prove who will give certificate, and is it valid in all over the world ? What is certificate fees ? What id require? How i can i got it ? Can i take two ?

FGM is a good indication

They should just convert to Christianity, job done

Oh, with me 5 inches or more and he's got a chance.

She could always just leave the cult. Problem solved.

With an ID or OD

It’s a fair point. Homogeneity of any group (cultural/religious/racial/straight/LGBTQII/able/disabled etc) often breeds undue negativity towards those seen as diff. We all need to be conscious to the fact what we’re used to isn’t all there is & different can be just as good.

What a strange article. People who feel they are segregated by others of their faith feel that the solution to their problem is…more segregation.

Erm... sure this is news; no I didn't know; these folk you usually do. Some seems to go to the extremes of violence to prove faith. dating incompatible folk usually difficult no matter what faith you would want to be; nor none faith. seems a loaded answer and question.

oh god here it fucking is again

And how very lovely that the article refers to 'anti-blackness' among muslims instead of the usual term 'racism', which presumably only applies when white people are involved.

Is that Whitey's fault as well?

This is gonna be another lesbians feeling forced to date transgender women backlash.

'Kha'llum, who was born a Muslim' No-one, not a single person ever, has been 'born a Muslim'.

Atheism is nice this time of year!
