Yorkshire Water says it is considering bringing in a temporary hosepipe ban and drought permits after reservoir levels fell below 50%.
The company said water levels were "20% lower than normal for this time of year" and rivers remained low due to the lack of rain. A ban could see restrictions on using hosepipes, with anyone breaking the rules facing a fine of up to £1,000.Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "We're carefully reviewing our current and future position, taking into account the forecast for further high temperatures and little rainfall in the region. The firm previously said that the amount of stored water is now the same as in 1995 - when supplies ended up being brought to the area by tankers.
Don't we get much of our supply of water in Yorkshire from kielder lake in Northumberland?
judgejules1311 have we been here ? Xx
They should think of this when it rains the other 50 weeks of the year
Looks like this every summer! Nothing new here!!
Yet when I ask if they're gonna introduce a hosepipe ban they say they're looking at their options 🙄😡
Yet 10s of thousands of new homes built, but no new reservoirs built to cope with the demand. Just the same infrastructure we have had for years, that’s the problem, not a few days of summer
Rain on Monday, Tuesday n Wednesday
Oh gosh! I hope people take note and conserve water .
Yet no hosepipe ban
