In the new series, the family will struggle to survive an historic drought, lawlessness, prohibition and a cattle theft epidemic. All of this is set against the backdrop of the great depression of Montana. It will also explore the impact of the end of World War I in 1918.
Although not much detail has been released about the characters, Paramount+ said in a statement:"The next story will introduce a new generation of the Dutton family and explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home."
