Wrexham AFC have become one of the biggest talking points in American soccer circles, much to the chagrin of some MLS fans. The club are coming to the U.S. this summer, with big ambitions.

Thought about objectively, it isn’t terribly difficult to understand why a match like Wrexham’s FA Cup tie would prove so interesting to U.S. audiences, maybe more appealing than any domestic league’s. “Welcome to Wrexham”

“It’s flattering from our perspective,” said Harvey when asked why he thinks a viewer might prefer an FA Cup match featuring Wrexham over an MLS one. “It’s because it isn’t usual. It isn’t normal. It isn’t something that’s been looked upon, or, generally, in the past. That unique approach is what raises that interest for the viewer. Would people watch each of Wrexham’s 46 league games in the season? Probably not. It becomes the same at that stage.

“Soccer is not our sport,” said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar. “It’s not an American sport. A lot of time people will get into the habit of emulating what’s going on elsewhere and falling into that trap. What’s really important and what we’re banking on is that we’re gonna let our creativity and originality come out and we’re gonna stay true to the sport – but we’re gonna innovate and not be afraid to try things.

“They represent something so unique that you can’t get anywhere else,” said Mugar. “There are several types of teams we envision in an event like this – big, huge professional clubs, people who play pickup that you’ve never heard of before, alumni teams, all these different affinity groups. Wrexham is in a category of their own. They’re on this journey to not only win the FA Cup this year but go up the ranks of professional soccer.

Says something when americans are turning to uk lower league football for excitement!

If MLS doesnt like it, man up and do better.

Those games are going to make so much money

Maybe if American sports would adopt the idea of relegation, fandom would mean more…the drama is thicker, the stakes are higher. The emotion becomes real. When there is no real penalty for bad teams, it become trivial and “there’s always next season” mentality.
