Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of London to demand action from the government on the cost of living crisis.
Protesters set off from Portland Place and headed towards Parliament Square at about 12:00 BST as part of the We Demand Better march. The TUC said its research suggested workers have lost almost £20,000 since 2008 because pay has not kept pace with inflation.
Members of NASUWT, the Teachers' Union, were among those who attended the march and called for the profession to receive a "pay uplift and an urgent rebalancing of workload".
So true I agree
I support these strikes. Teachers deserve decent pay and conditions. Teachers give the whole country a good start in life and we need to value proper knowledge as a society to avoid fake news and misinformation. r4today
Those that have not taught a kid anything for years; gave free school meals; Taught gay values. Why over pay them? Just seems a labour tool to make cost of living worse; wonder why? Media will jump on any colour bandwagon.
Oh FFS. Another hard-left union-led sector hell-bent on adding fuel to the flames of Britain’s demise. If you don’t like your bloated salaries, short working hours, and vast amounts of time off, FIND ANOTHER JOB.
Furlough was ok for them but now it’s terrible, can’t drink wine in the glass room !!
We have been turned into Biden's Bag man and the stupid economic war against Russia allied with China, after the useless lockdowns had already hammered the economy, its not going to get better anytime soon.
😡😡😡😡
It affects everyone. What if everyone went on strike?
'Workers'
Why hate on teachers? Until you have taught you won’t appreciate the untenability of the job. Overcrowded classrooms & parents who don’t support you, couldn’t give a toss about their own children ,insane out of hour expectancies Teach all day mark and plan all night & weekends
The number of people talking shit under this post shows exactly why we need more and better paid teachers.
And this lot actually teach our children, very worrying.
Zzzzzzz
Try working in the private sector then cry
More whingers and moaners. How they think this solves anything is laughable. What would solve the problem is getting stuck in and working at it rather than throwing a hissy fit. Amazing how so many public sector workers like to pick up a placard rather than toughen up.
Inflation is affecting all nations at the moment
About time retail workers took to the streets and/or went on strike.
I hope diesel will be £5 petrol 5.50. For so long you have ignored this planet and now it’s time for you to pay, and the price will be very high
Because the rise in inflation and the Bank of England raising interest rates to try to battle it is all lies and the government can control inflation and is just choosing not to
Obviously organised by labour. Yet again remember labour love strikes
CANT THEY ALL WORK IN THEIR HOLIDAYS? Sorry. Wait? They are only paid for a fraction of the hours they work? They ARENT paid for holidays? They have to do what? But what about the youth service? oh. The Mental health provis... ? Oh De facto pay cut of 10k under the Tories?
They’ve got a bloody nerve , they haven’t been in school over the last couple of yrs. how much does their pensions cost the taxpayers?
About time they did some work
The summer of discontent has begun. Teachers out next demanding a 12% rise.
Just teachers there then-are you sure about that? It was organised by the TUC and there were people from a variety of sectors. Please correct to “Workers take to London’s streets”
What are these teachers modeling for their students, we can throw tantrums to get our why?
Labour will. Absolutely ruin us and if the govrnmrnt caves in. It will be a travesty. Of biblical. Proportions
Are you sure that this is not the TUC organised event about the cost of living crisis which has been on Sky News since this morning
EnoughIsEnough WeDemandBetter JohnsonOut145
Why dont we hear from college lecturers...did you know we are paid less...?
What do they want now another furlough !!
Not just teachers. MPs gave themselves £2.2k pay rise, subbed food/ drink in their 4 Westminster bars and claim energy on expenses. The rest of us can carry on with 12 years of austere below inflation pay rises. Simon Clarke on £120K telling us not to ask for a pay rise.🤷♀️
Freeze inflation by increasing pay. Bless em.
Just before they have 2 months off...🤣
Seriously police need to go on strike if teachers are grizzling!!!
Another bunch of greedy bastads its all political labour and unions against the tories
What? How did Joe Biden spread inflation to the UK?
Boris's reaction.....BBCNews ResignNow
We need to raise pay so companies can raise prices!
Lol teachers spend the entire pandemic working from home and now complain about the inflation they caused supporting lockdowns 😂😂
