Wendie Renard scored a contentious late penalty for France against Nigeria which caused uproar on social media - so did the officials get it right?

And Nigeria coach Thomas Dennerby"If I give you my honest feelings, they'll probably send me home so it's better I don't say anything.

"My players are heroes. Of course I'm disappointed by the result, France is a really good team and don't need support from anybody to win games. The girls were fighting so well, they followed the match plan and it's getting destroyed by people that we're not so happy with."to give match-winner Renard the lowest score of any player on the pitch , while keeper Nnadozie got the highest mark .

Former England defender Laura Bassett, watching for BBC Four, said the decisions were"ultimately right" but that the law changes will continue to lead to confusion. "France deserved to win because Nigeria were in the wrong [according to the laws] but for the players it is so hard because it is going to take time to coach them to change their training methods."Media playback is not supported on this deviceBBC Sport has launched #ChangeTheGame this summer to showcase female athletes in a way they never have been before.

BBCSport yes. Penalty was clear and obvious decision. Its attempt goalk moved forward before the ball was kicked. That's the rule.

Women play football Next thing you know, these dames will be allowed to drive!

Didn't get the re take right absolute joke of a decision

match-fixing

Nobody cares.

It look shennigsnish with regret. Power must be used accordingly. So over it. Always Africa gets screwed by French.

Home nation is the only one that would get this decision.

Perhaps technically right but they have got to be consistent. How about encroachment by outfield players during a spot kick, free kicks and throw ins from the wrong place, a sneaky arm grab at corners? The list goes on and on. Just smacks a little of favouritism for home side.

No, nor the one against Norway. I'm not anti France but this stinks big time

Initial penalty, arguably French encroachment, missed, therefore means Indirect Free Kick Nigeria 🤔Second penalty, definite encroachment, should be retaken 😂 VARisajoke

Every goalkeeper on every penalty moves forward. It's very rarely enforced.

😴💤

VAR is a joke

The other penalty was an intentional cheat on the super falcons

Always amazes me some of the decisions that go the host nations way !

Didn't look like a penalty in first place. As for goal keepers feet, if she'd save it, then retake penalty, but she completely missed the goal, so it shouldn't have to be retaken, VAR becoming a joke in WWC

Initial decision spot on the rest No in my opinion .

Is against Nigeria..
