Women of the world, it’s time to throw off your handbags

It is fitting that Mrs Thatcher’s handbag should take centre stage at the V&A’s forthcoming exhibition, Bags: Inside Out. No other political leader has wielded a fashion accessory with so much heft. And yet, looking at a photograph of the grey Asprey’s bag in question, dangling from the PM’s arm as she entered Number 10, I was struck by the awkwardness of her posture.
