A WOMAN who wrote on Facebook that her ex-husband tried to strangle her has won a libel case on appeal.PA:Press Association/PA ImagesRonald Stocker claimed Nicola's Facebook post ruined his reputationHe also said other allegations suggested he was “dangerous and thoroughly disreputable”.
Yesterday Lord Kerr ruled that the judge who found in his favour, Mr Justice Mitting, was wrong for relying on dictionary definitions of “to strangle”.
Lord Kerr said: “He failed to conduct a realistic exploration of how an ordinary reader of the post would have understood it — [namely that] Mr Stocker had grasped her by the throat.” Mrs Stocker, 51, of Longwick, Bucks, called cops after the incident in 2003, which left marks on her neck. The couple split in 2010.
