Police have released details of a call where a woman phoned 999 during the early hours of the morning – only to ask for a pizza.

Emma said: “When she asked for a pizza, I did think she might have been a prank caller, which is why I told her she was on the phone to police. Giving her name, the woman quickly added “I need right now”, conveying the urgency of her situation. “It is extremely rare that these calls come in, and I must say it caught me off guard at the end of a long shift, but I am glad that I could get the victim the help she required urgently.”

Detective Superintendent Jayne Butler said: “This incident shows exactly why no call to the emergency services should be instantly dismissed as a prank or nuisance call.

Well done to the operator for recognising this situation , thanks to her the lady was helped & I hope justice is done to the vile man who did this
