The 87-year-old was hit by a Mercedes Sprinter van on Walmersley Road at around 11.15am last Tuesday , police said. She was rushed to hospital from the scene.
In an update issued this morning , police said she tragically died of her injuries over the weekend. The driver - a 26-year-old man - remained at the scene after the incident to assist officers.He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving, police added. He has since been released under investigation.
Officers at GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for any witnesses of the crash - which happened close to the junction of Wolstenholme Avenue - to come forward. They particularly want to speak to anyone who might have footage from a dashcam or CCTV/doorbell from the area in the moments leading up to the crash.
