Red flags have dominated conversation, and Toto Wolff wants a few things cleared up around using them. Via Formula_Nerds F1

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that Formula 1 must be more clear when using a red flag after losing out during the Australian Grand Prix with George Russell. The headlines from last weekend’scame from the three red flags shown during the race. This caused many drivers to crash, causing a lot of controversy and disgust.

The second red flag happened during the final ten laps of the race. Kevin Magnussen caused it by losing his right rear wheel, after clipping the wall. Several drivers believed that this incident was not a red flag either. “We just need to understand going forward when are red flags being put out, and what is a safety car or VSC? I think in those incidents you could have applied either.

Wolff: F1 must better define when to use red flags🗣️ 'We just need to understand when are red flags being put out, and what is a safety car or VSC?' Mercedes boss Toto Wolff wants F1 to better define when a red flag is used following the AusGP incidents ⬇️ It's simple. It's when the fia want to shake up the order. Or change the championship results. I thought we all knew that. They have several tools in their toolbox to help increase redbullracing points and they pick the most appropriate. When Charlie was around a red flag was only used when you had to stop the race. It was always very clear when this was… should be common sense driven and not rule driven. I dont often agree with what Toto has to say but Im with him on this one 👍

Wolff: F1 must better define when to use red flagsMercedes chief Toto Wolff thinks Formula 1 needs to do a better job defining when to use a red flag after being caught out in the Australian Grand Prix. Quite otherwise soon race control will be throwing them for a discarded crisp packet that's blown on to the track if the race is looking like a bit of a procession. That's how a sore loser talks. This is racing, the shit isn't fair, but guess what, it's okay to take a closer look at an incident and red flag for safety cleanup. Happens in every series, F1 isn't immune, stay on the track, as it is the best drivers in the world... He's probably wrong tho, just trying to talk in favour of Marc's disadvantage, the red flag was fair enough, gravel and a car stuck on the racing line. Cleaning up and repairing the barrier needed a red flag. Better safe than sorry approach is actually good tbf.
