Konnie Huq on motherhood and 'stepping back' from TV presenting

When she was a presenter on Blue Peter, Konnie Huq noticed a recurring theme.

The presenter's own passion for such subjects is one of the reasons she has written a children's book with a central character who embraces learning. Cookie Haque loves long words and her favourite subject is science. "I did this show for Sky called King of the Nerds, which was a reality show looking for the world's biggest nerd, essentially, celebrating the geek, which is also what I'm about.

Although she's done bits and pieces since then, like guest presenting The One Show, Huq hasn't taken on a major TV gig since King of The Nerds, which aired in 2015."It's not going away, there's loads of time left," she points out."I'm lucky in that the media is much more freelancey. So I didn't have that pressure that lots of people have if you jump off the ladder, then you get left behind. And also I do think you can get too ambitious with it.

"Children's has always been my bag really," she says."Ever since coming out of university, I've worked in children's television, we had the Blue Peter Book Awards, I've done a lot of initiatives with children from deprived backgrounds and a lot of STEM learning initiatives, and so [writing a book] is sort of taking all that and putting it together.

So it's social media instead of T.V. Must be hard staying out of the limelight for 6 months.

Didn’t know she did presenting

What exactly did she ever do on TV? Presenters get replaced all the damned time! Her style is probably unsuitable for today! Blaming kids for career failure is not cool!

BBC News: 'New mum takes a break from work'. Entire World: 'Ok'.

Slow news day? Or just looking for something different to post up to try and get away from the laughable “modern” society in which we live?

Yawn

Here you go love 🥇

‘Woman has baby and takes time off work shock’. Thanks, BBC.

'stepping back'.. the only reason she clung on to that blue Peter job for so long was she knew wouldn't get work anywhere else on tv

Could somebody inform the BBC News Twitter account that over 80% of the UK's population is white and that constantly pushing it's pro minorities agenda amounts to discrimination

Fantasy living in a bubble world cee lebs v reality

Who?

I'll just step into the limelight to tell the world how I've honourably taken a step back! I don't want the attention.........honest!

Newsflash; ‘New mother takes maternity leave’ shock.

Most people can't afford to take a step back.

Hubbie's minted: can afford to step back (unlike many working mums).

who is she?...nd who gives a fk

And this is news because she's a woman of a racial minority? 🤡🌍

We've stepped back from the BBC too.

How boring

Is congratulations due to daraobriain ? TheHuq
