CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ten minutes made all the difference. Consider the scene: It’s a few minutes past noon in the Piedmont Ballroom of the Hilton Charlotte Uptown, the site of this year’s ACC basketball media day. At the time — midway through North Carolina’s scheduled breakout session — you could barely move without bumping shoulders; we’re talking wall-to-wall reporters, cameras, microphones, the works.
But the only thing that truly matters is what happens on the court — and there, there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic about Miami’s chances this season. That conversation starts with the two players Miami brought to Charlotte: Omier and Pack. Both transferred into the program last season — Omier from Arkansas State, Pack from — and immediately fit Larrañaga’s small-ball system. In Omier, Larrañaga found someone who could fill his team’s biggest void: rebounding.
