Rushdie's first three novels - Grimus (1975), Midnight's Children (1981) and Shame (1983) - were all met with praise but it was his fourth - The Satanic Verses - that brought criticism.

Salman Rushdie is an Indian-born British author whose writing about religion and politics has made him controversial in some parts of the world.

His first three novels - Grimus , Midnight's Children and Shame - were all met with praise but it was his fourth - The Satanic Verses - that brought criticism. Some of the scenes in the 1988 book depict a character modelled on the Prophet Muhammad and this was met with anger from some members of the Muslim community in the UK.Protests spread as far as Pakistan in January 1989 and the following month, the spiritual leader of revolutionary Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, condemned the book and issued a fatwa against him.

Why aren't you highlighting the lack of any condemnation of the attack from the likes of SadiqKhan, zarahsultana ?

Because he is brave enough to tell the truth. You can’t understand…

And im blocking

Because religion sucks

Simply stunning. An article a 16yr old could write. Devoid of any facts. Not even the writers name....ashamed? Told to do it?

What a disgusting headline! Not watched Sky news for 2 years now and this tweet sums up why!

Why are Muslims so stabby, shooty and life’s eternal faux victims?

He wrote a book. It inflamed followers of 'The Religion of Peace' because if there's one thing you cannot do it is to offend the followers of 'The Religion of Peace', otherwise the followers of 'The Religion of Peace' may try to kill you.

He isn’t. It’s that Islam is so insecure in its self that it cannot accept anything that examines its beliefs.

Appalling attempt to cast blame on the victim of a terrorist attack. I don't like Rushdie or his books, but he ought to be able to say and write what he likes. You should be ashamed of yourselves for implying he's somehow at fault for what happened to him. He is not.

sky Blame Salmon Rushdie for his attempted murder by Muslim terrorist

Now write an article “Why Islam is so controversial”.

He is not Religions are the problem The sooner people realise their preference as to the flavour of fairies at the bottom of their gardens is their own guilty secret the better off humanity will be

He is not at all, there are just some people that don’t like what he says that’s all

He shdnt b- just islam having issue w Freedom of Speech…

Seems to me, you really have become a pathetic click baiter. A parody of a news organisation.

ffs. He is NOT controversial? What the hell is wrong with you at Sky

Id ask why a certain religion of peas would want him dead?

This is awful from . He's not controversial. This is exactly what we're fighting against. People who express themselves freely in a novel are not controversial.

Religion always finds a way to hurt people in the name of god.

Another mooslum crime 💩💩💩🦃🦃🦃

If you think salmen rushdi is the problem you need help

He isn't, but you are cos you don't have the guts to point the finger at the real culprits. There's an elephant in the Sky Newsroom and they are terrified of it to the extent they are failing to do their jobs. They leave it to the public on social media because they're frit.

Why does sly news like stirring up controversies? Surely the fact he was attacked is the news, the why is for the courts!

Who cares.

Why is Sky News [Comcast] victim blaming?

🖕

You really are disgraceful.

agree with some of the replies here - Salman Rushdie is not controversial, his book was.

Why did you miss out Salman Rushdie is Muslim? Seems to be a thing in the news today. What's up? You're all copy-pasting the same text from Wikipedia?

Now there’s a shaming headline!

He wrote an offensive book that would have a trigger warning on the front cover if it was published today. The only thing it's famous for is making the news for the international furore it caused. Midnight's Children is much better if you want to read him.

You mean he’s using that thing, you know… free speech!!

Bigger questions for the religion of peace, if you ask me.

Why is Sky News losing viewers hand over fist? Let me think! 🤔

That's an extremely cowardly headline.

The fact this is still up proves your depravity.

Salman Rushdie claim Sharia as Quran but claim Hadiths as a discipline as coordination is different in India. BBCIndia

is controversial not SalmanRushdie

Bande de grosses merdes

Islam is the problem, not Rushdie. May your brains get that at Skynews

It’s not him, it’s Tue vile religion of peace

He’s not. He’s a writer.

Is the answer ‘because we have a surplus of barbarians?’

He’s not controversial. It’s a primitive religion that’s controversial

He isn't. Muslims are just hateful

The most obvious thing here is, there can be no such thing as a death sentence for blasphemy

Sly news being sly, is this the corporate MSM memo demand, victim blame.

Sky and the BBC are to coward to publish anything to offend islam You cowards may have well stabbed him yourself.

He isn't but rubbish like sky news try to make him so.

Because he speaks truth about religion.

He has just been rushed to hospital...you are an utter disgrace!! 😡

What is wrong with you? An innocent author just got stabbed at a public event & your take is that HE is controversial 🤡

He’s not.

He’s not controversial. It’s the nutters who want to kill him over a fictional book you should focus on

Because Islam is racist, intolerant and carried out fascism in the 21st century.

When the elephant is in the room and sky news won’t say it…….. ISLAM

Perfect timing you gits.

He isn't. Blame the deranged followers of a dangerous religion.

I'd suggest skynews retract this shit

It’s just a book

He isn't controversial. He is hated just because he used his freedom of speech to criticise Islam. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
