Social distancing is important because coronavirus spreads when an infected person coughs small droplets - packed with the virus - into the air.
Research shows that this coronavirus thrives in crowded, indoor spaces which is why pubs, restaurants and many workplaces have been closed and the public has been advised against using public transport. When outdoors, we're much less likely to come into contact with an infected surface, while any tiny particles of virus would be dispersed by fresh air.
There are also natural elements working in our favour outside - breezes, air currents, rain, wind - which all dilute the possibility of the virus particles being passed from one person and landing on another.
Great Tweet 😂
No it's because there less noise, little if no planes, less traffic, go live in the countryside and this is Normal !
BBCWorld they ``re no doubt.
BBCWorld There are more birds I believe as their eggs are surviving because of less pollution
No! Less traffic noise.
It’s the mating season so they do sound louder !!
Yes
Birds are singing all night long? I have never noticed this before? Just the odd few but it sounds like morning outside because the birds are so noisy all night long! Strange?
BBCWorld Really...
Imo they are.
Or maybe, with free time, you can notice.
Lack of background noise less.transport industry etc ?
Yes
Does this really fall into the category of news? Wow do better
j13fox
BBCWorld The songs of springtime mockingbirds are the most beautiful music in Los Angeles. They sing at full forte into the deep of night.
Nope they just aren’t getting drowned out by man made noises
Also check how bad parks smell these days, birds might be complaining about it. Open public bathrooms now and save the parks.
BBCWorld Yes. The mockingbird serenades me in the morning :-)
No. Just less noise I think.
look if the dark cloud as to have a silver lining wildlife as to be up there. a time when the great consumer species as been out of circulation as been like a fillip of hope for planet earth.
Is this meant for cbeebies and got mixed up with the news?
BBCWorld I didn’t know birds can type let alone tweet!
Isn't this what you've been saying all along, EloiseKerry?
I understand that birds actually crank up the volume when there’s a lot of background noise, so I’d expect them to be quieter
BBCWorld Yes they do! They're also noisy to feed their young in the backyard before the crack of dawn... wake me up too early! can't sleep with open windows! Please keep the lockdown until the chicks can fly away so people can get more sleep back!
BBCHamedani BBC is so shit
Now they can hear each other
No,cos during lockdown, it's so quiet cos the mobility of human beings has been brought into a standstill.
Nonsense!!!! If you are a Quotidien early riser, for your early run /walk ..you will know that a change did happen! N.B: 4am to 5am the number of cars on the road & the number of aeroplanes in the sky is at almost 0 before and during the pandemic!!!! RealityCheck ✅
BBCWorld いいね👍!
5:37am ...they are deafest here
BBCWorld Yes ! And earlier every morning!
I guess we are all taking more notice with our own ears as things are a lot quieter at present and take things for granted normally
Are you with plenty of free time?
Seriously ? Humans have just stfu for once
Just less background noise, less bodies outside absorbing and blocking the sound. You learn this stuff in primary school why are they trying to make a news story about it 😂
BBCWorld Just less background noise, and cleaner air due to lack of traffic, but that will soon change when we return to what we perceive as being normal
No, just less traffic noise.
They’re always loud in spring, but we can hear them better because less traffic on the roads means less noise, obviously. It’s a much nice sound than traffic though, and it’s a shame the roads can’t always be this quiet.
Donald Bird Trump does.
You just have to be grateful when the BBC takes time out to educate us. Next week's episode will teach us on how to better eavesdrop on our neighbours by holding a glass against the wall. And don't forget if you happen to hear anything said by a Tory politician to drop it round.
BBCWorld Biggest Mysteries next case: Does the flowers smell more in lockdown? Can't wait for the truth unfold.
No...it’s because there's so much less traffic.
No, just twats tweeting more!
given2tweet
Tell me about it just paid £260 to get a tree cut down due to the loudest Robin singing from it from 3AM till late without doubt Robins are the loudest most annoying bird in the UK so much happier now he's not so close to the house can still hear him though but from afar 🐦📴
And we have to pay a licence fee for this garbage ffs
No you can just hear them because no traffic 🤦♂️
KathyKelliott Sure you reported on research recently that birds in London sang louder to compete with traffic noise.
BBCWorld No. Its because noise reduction due to less number of cars and people.
BBCWorld I think it's just quieter around here n the basic fact that I pay more attention to nature than people most of the time
Whatever may be the reasons for birds singing louder than usual, I am happy to report that for the first time I am hearing a bird singing a heavenly song at 5 in the morning daily from a tree across the street since lockdown imposed in Karachi Pak due Coronavirus pandemic
No
We have time to listen and enjoy it.
BBCWorld Bird calls and song are best heard at dawn and dusk – times also when Allah encourages humans to “glorify your Lord morning and evening.” (Quran, 76:25).
Yes they are, i have had a new hearing aid and they are so loud, lovely though.
MSM Continuing to treat the public like idiots 🙄
Section21PsyOPS the UK and the USA are about tk turned to dust. Cherish the bird sounds. According to Revelations, it is going to happen fast and suddenly. It is because Trump is a total idiot.
BBCWorld Yes and more birds about
BBCWorld Only the birds on Twitter
No.
Ours definitely are! Mind you we are feeding birds mealworms 🐛 so they start calling for them early now. We even get them about a foot away from our patio windows demanding to be fed. Amazing
BBCWorld Yeah - birds 🐦 are now the main actors on STAGE 👏👍❤️
Yes because there is no background noise....
Yes. Please can we stay this way?
BBCWorld No we're just now paying attention
BBCWorld Well could of stoned the crows at 3-40 am this morning & a random magpie
No. Everyone’s listening more. 🦅♥️
Stupid question!
They are certainly more confident
On twitter?
Sounds like it but its surely due to less background noise?
There’s obviously less noise as people are stuck indoors
Sexist
Oh for goodness sake so be so daft it’s just quieter so you can hear them better 😂😂😂
How thick do the media we actually are 🤦♂️We know why!!
