Selective education is expanding by stealth. The general election should have been a chance to make a stand

Whatever the outcome of the general election, one group of heads will have every reason to be content. The leaders of England’s 163 grammar schools have made it through another campaign with barely a word uttered about the bastions of privilege over which they preside.

'Make a stand' On what ? Bog-standard comprehensives ?

Corbyn went to a grammar school, they only managed to get him two “E” grade ( the lowest possible) A levels, perhaps that’s why he despises them.

Why do grammar schools cause so much debate in England? I went to a grammar school in NI, and I believe it helped me attain better grades than my friends. Btw, it was free, which was lucky because I was a working class kid from a council estate.

Comprehensive schools where parents and children care about standards and education are every bit as good as a grammar school and in fact they have more money and offer better opportunities on the curriculum. The question you should be asking is how do we make everyone care.

This is a result of parents wanting their kids away from the dysfunctional section of U.K. society, you know the 13 year olds who stab people?
