ICYMI Newsnight's Political Editor nicholaswatt examined the fallout from the Chancellor's Mini-Budget & what options the Government has left to avert a full-blown crisis

Some, who describe themselves as "critical but sensible", are dismissing "idiotic talk" of trying to oust the prime minister.

The question is whether the chancellor will be forced to U-turn on any of Friday's measures before then. One rapidly approaching date in Mr Kwarteng's diary is his speech to the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham on Monday. Hardly the backdrop he would have wanted to his first as chancellor. A former cabinet minister points out that just 50 Tory MPs backed Ms Truss as their first choice in the leadership race, so she doesn't enjoy the well of support that Boris Johnson had.But self-preservation often kicks in at a time of crisis and Tory MPs fear a full-blown economic crisis could drive them out of power.

MPs condemn ‘acute harm’ caused to prisoners by IPP sentencesThe IPP scheme has been described as 'the single greatest stain on our criminal justice system' by a former supreme court justice. Martin Read has been meeting some of those prisoners affected. Oh God love them, what about my human right to feel safe when I'm out or at home without being attacked, robbed etc! IPPs are a disgrace, inhumane, and need to be immediately abolished. This seem like a horrific miscarriage of justice, & I’m glad you broadcast this report. An indefinite sentence seems grossly out of proportion for almost any offence, & it’s not like these ppl are doing time for mass murder/genocide/war crimes/etc. Human rights are important.

Chancellor will be vindicated over mini-budget, say county's Tory MPsOne has called the measures a 'very courageous, bold and innovative programme' that will 'avoid a long and deep recession'. Very courageous, bold and innovative to crash the £, sky rocket guilt yields (and mortgage rates), attract criticism of the IMF and ratings agencies, downgraded economic forecasts and lower pension pots, but Daniel is always right so that’s me reassured 😂😂😂😂😂
