What constitutes success for Newcastle United? It has to be seventh at the very least. And Eddie Howe is vulnerable.

If nothing else, the fog on the Tyne certainly seems to have lifted. There are few clubs in the Premier League whose supporters are as happy as those of Newcastle United. That’s the power of an awful lot of money. But for all the plaudits thrown at Eddie Howe’s team, the suspicion lingers that the second half of last season was a free hit and that this season is when the real tests begin.

That makes a top seven place sound achievable, so can Newcastle get that high? This sounds more than just ‘achievable’. Considering all the money that has already been spent, it’s pretty much where the minimum expectations for them should lie. The £90m they spent in the January transfer window was the most of any club in Europe, but this doesn’t mean that they didn’t get value for money. When that transfer window closed on February 1, they were in 17th place in the Premier League.

twoht This article makes no sense. We’ve spent less than dozens of clubs already this summer. Leeds have spent more than us so far. And last season wasn’t a “free hit”. It was a relegation battle that Howe made look easy

twoht Success = positive PR for Mohammed Bin Salman. Let’s not pretend this is a normal football club.

twoht 8th to 10th place finish and 2 gd cup runs

The more people doubt Eddie, the more he proves the doubters wrong. What more has he got to do?

This is nonsense - to say after a couple of transfer windows and years of neglect that we've jumped past everyone else is optimistic. We've the same attack and midfield that traditionally been low of goals. Nufc fans are just asking for continued improvement. Eddie is safe.

I think that most NUFC fans are realistic and don't expect giant leaps. If we are competing with West Ham, Leicester & Wolves next season that represents progress. I think there will be more pressure from external factors (media?) than from the fan base to be honest.
