Wetherspoons will be moving forward with the redevelopment of the former Sant' Angelo restaurant in Wetherby in Leeds.
The pub chain acquired the local Italian restaurant in October 2022, but announced in August 2023 that they would no longer be moving forward with the development as they sought to put it on the market. At the time, a Wetherspoons spokesperson said : "Whilst we have only owned the property for a relatively short period of time, the landscape of the hospitality industry has changed significantly.
"After careful consideration we wanted to let you know that for commercial reasons which we do not intend to be drawn upon, we have chosen to sell the Sant' Angelo property."Hopefully the new buyer will be able to bring forward a development and put the property back in to use. Agents Savills and CBRE will be marketing the site shortly."However, now Wetherspoons has said it is planning to develop the building into one of its pubs. after all.
Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "The company has decided to develop its site in Wetherby into one of its pubs. The plans proved controversial when they were first announced, with some locals saying they feared "drunkeness and unpleasant behaviour".
