Frontline staff delivering home care services will strike on Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11

Care workers across West Dunbartonshire are set to go on strike for two days next week after accusing bosses of undervaluing their work.

The union also said the first review of care workers’ roles in 16 years did not recognise the skills and specialist experience of staff and failed to properly assess their new responsibilities of delivering complex care and support. “They only want their work to be fairly evaluated and properly rewarded and have been asked to wait far too long for that to happen.

She added: “Male dominated craft workers in this council are getting an additional four public holidays a year compared to the female dominated SJC workers - that’s four times that women workers are going to work and getting plain time while their male counterparts are getting enhanced rates. “This isn’t a problem that is going to go away and our members are angry. They want their equal pay.”
