It's early as I step through the doors of Nottinghamshire's new fast food restaurant Tim Hortons but there's already a buzz. I'd never heard of the brand until the announcement 19 months ago that a branch of the Canadian giant would be opening in Mansfield.
Fans of the brand tell me they love it for being different, especially a great range of drinks such as a birthday cake iced capp with sprinkles and whipped cream and one of big favourites, a maple latte. Previously I've only ever had maple syrup, part of the fabric of Canada, on pancakes and parsnips but never in a drink. I'll give it a go at some point but not right now.
Muffins come with egg, bacon and egg, sausage and egg, and veggie sausage and egg. They're very similar looking to those at the Golden Arches and through habit it's easily to slip up and refer them to McMuffins. It's hot, tasty and, for a fast food brekkie, it's decent quality. The accompanying hash brown is crispy and surprisingly ungreasy. It's satisfying in more way than one. At £3.49 the breakfast deal, including a drink, is unbeatable value - and it keeps the hunger pangs at bay way past lunchtime.
