A night away with the kids is always fun. Throw in a castle built in 1103, Scooby Doo-style suits of armour scattering the hallways, free sports and nature hunts and you’ve got the ingredients for an awesome trip. I travelled to Amberley Castle in West Sussex, with my boys aged 11 and nine. They’re big fans of all things Horrible Histories – especially if it involves fighting each other with pretend swords and shields. So they were in their element at the historic hotel.
Is it baby friendly? While you might struggle with your pram on the gravel leading from the car park to the hotel doors, once inside you’re all set. Their aim is to make your trip as easy as possible, without packing half your home in your car. We stayed in interconnecting rooms – one double and a twin room – both with the most comfy beds EVER. . You feel like you’re staying in a moment of history, with the exposed original beams dating back over 1,000 years.
