For what it is worth, here at The Mag, we also stand with Gary Lineker. Undoubtedly one of the good guys.‘Match of the Day will air later without a studio presenter, pundits, or its regular commentators, after the BBC told Gary Lineker to step back in a row over impartiality.
The corporation said it considered his “recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines”, adding it had been “decided that he will step back from presenting Match of the Day until we’ve got an agreed and clear position on his use of social media”. MOTD commentators Steve Wilson, Conor McNamara, Robyn Cowen and Steven Wyeth shared a joint statement online, saying they “do not feel it would be appropriate to take part in the programme” on Saturday.’‘Gary Lineker has been told to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use, the BBC has said. The BBC said it considered Lineker’s “recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines”.
The move has led to Saturday’s Match of the Day going ahead without presenters or pundits – as one by one contributors ruled themselves out. Lineker has not yet publicly commented but while presenting 5News earlier, former BBC presenter Dan Walker read out a text live on air from the 62-year-old.He said he had received a reply saying: “No, they’ve [the BBC] told me I have to step back.”
Speaking on the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast, the home secretary said the Nazi comparison was “lazy and unhelpful” and said her family “feel very keenly the impact of the Holocaust” as her husband is Jewish.Prime Minister Rishi Sunak defended the proposals saying stopping the arrival of small boats is a “priority” for the British people.
I don’t stand with Gary Lineker until he stops one person risking their life crossing treacherous seas in an unseaworthy vessel after traffickers have taken all of their money. 🤔
Total distraction
Not interested in his political views no matter what they are. Get off the soapbox and stick to football ⚽️
No chance
That’s you unfollowed
This just proves why politics should be kept out of football. The country is struggling, people work hard all week and want to enjoy their weekend. Not read this drivel, have their clubs divided and have their sports shows cancelled by attention seeking millionaire's. Mental.
WTF This government having killed people
Count me out...
😟😟😟
I don't. I can't stand the hypocritical champagne tax dodging extreme lefty. DefundTheBBC
I don’t!
Defo don’t back smug jug or his bum chums, from a geordie!!
Who does?
I certainly don’t. Champagne Socialists make me sick.
The reminder AND the warning.....
you sign a contract and you have to abide by the contract. If he is so passionate about the topic that he can't abide by the contract then he should resign! This virtue signing by the mag is just bullshit!
I stand by him. This censorship is part of a disturbing trend where nobody, from left or right, is allowed free speech because people get 'offended'. Fiona Bruce seemed to get away with defending Stanley Johnson being a wife beater. Did the BBC censor her Newsnight behaviour?
I certainly don't stand with him.
No you do we do not
I DONT stand with him, he should be sacked
He signed a contract at the BBC stating he couldnt say what he's said multiple times, and only now he's been reprimanded for it. If he's a man of principle he should resign, otherwise its just hollow words by him. If he does will Shearer and Wright do the same out of solidarity.
Bollocks to Gary attention seeking Lineker
Sorry I don’t stand by Gary’s comments. Gary’s comments and actions don’t last for 24 hours, and return to MOD, if he has principles he has to resign.
I dont
