A couple have decided to give up living in bricks and mortar in exchange for life on a narrowboat. Ellie Jones and Harry Barker, both 28, owned a house together in Northwich but have now chosen to opt for a 'completely different way of life' on the water.

I don't think we'll do it for over five years. The savings are going to be massive. Ellie said her parents were looking at selling the boat due to the maintenance costs involved in keeping it on the water, but their new arrangement means the couple will now pay Ellie's parents rent to live on the boat instead, while renting out their own house in Northwich.
"You're really wary of how much water you use because you have to fill up the water tank every time it's empty. You can get eight showers out of one tank. We're always wary of how many times we flush the toilet." While a lot of people may struggle with having less space for their belongings on a boat, Ellie said everything is multipurpose."It's such a small space, when the heating is on it's a lot cosier than your typical house. It's a completely different life style - you feel so much more relaxed.
