'We're going to miss the community': Elephant and Castle shopping centre closes after 55 years

After 55 years the final few traders were packing up their shops and stalls at the Elephant and Castle shopping centre in south London with mixed feelings about what the future might hold.

Terrible place should of been replaced years ago Smh

Worst shopping centre I've even been to tho ...Best shop in there is a chicken shop 🤣🤣🤣

Delancey employed Kim Humphries as adviser for their Elephant One development. He was Southwark Council's head of housing when planning applications were approved & they managed to avoid building any affordable housing by reselling the land to themselves via offshore companies

I remember hanging around there before going to see a film at the ABC or the coronet. Sad to see the place go.😪

Mostly, it hasn't been functional for years.

I love it and will miss it. So there.

It is bit grotty, but then again I'd keep if it was going to be replaced by another gentrified bland soulless building.
