The social and political tensions exposed by the referendum are far from being resolved. This is a dangerous dynamic, writes Guardian columnist Rafael Behr

If shambolic government turned leavers into remainers, Britain would have decided long ago not to bother with Brexit. But that isn’t how it works. The sight of Theresa May failing to organise a departure from the EU proves that she is unequal to the task, not necessarily that the task should be abandoned. For many Eurosceptics, it has the opposite effect. They see the fact that Brexit has broken a stolid prime minister as confirmation that gung-ho leadership is the missing ingredient.

Brexit means Brexit, but it is going to take longer than we expected.

Two sides? This thing has more sides than a multi faceted diamond but considerably less clarity.

The real losers are the likes of the Guardian and BBC

A frightening analysis and it rings horribly true. Take care what you wish for.

I hope that the EU will invoice Theresa May for all the time lost.

That’s some well played innuendo in that lede sir

Written from a very English perspective. Again, the Scots Remain vote simply ignored or what?

I disagree the only people that are at loggerheads are our Politicians The Democratic people say leave WTO ASAP!

Kill Brexit (which is currently consuming 120% of governmental, parliamentary, and civil service CPU time) first, then address the social divisions. It's not rocket science.

People may have difference of opinion over this but for sure the exit isn’t going as planned and the effects are catastrophic. Things seem to be messed up and a perfect exist plan is yet to be determined and believe me, execution of tht plan is way out of the hands of them.

Leave voters are certainly not edging away... no surrender matey! StandUp4Brexit

Duh.

Mays brinkmanship started 3 years ago, but nobody was aware how talentless and naive she really could be.

Isn't that a draw?

This is not true.
